Sites I Love: Rotten Tomatoes

This is this first in a series of posts on sites and/or online services that I love.  They may or may not be "Web 2.0" - in fact I think it will be interesting to see just how many of them are what we'd call a Web 2.0 site or service.  But in all cases, the site/service provides enough value for me to be a repeat user.

The first one is Rotten Tomatoes.  My wife and I love to watch movies and we often refer to Rotten Tomatoes to look up a particular movie and its rating, or we'll use it to browse the listings at local theaters, knowing that we can easily look up the rating of movies we're wanting to see.

Why I love it:  Comprehensive database of movies.  Easy to digest rating system that aggregates multiple reviews into one 'Tomatometer' rating (one score for critics' reviews and one for users' reviews).  It also provides easy navigation into the reviews themselves and has rich data about the movie such as synopsis, earnings, cast, trailer, etc.

How it can improve
:  Provide more social features a la Last.fmFlixster, a startup out of San Francisco, that has been getting some traction, claims to do just this.  I'm just now creating a profile on the site so let's see how it compares to Rotten Tomatoes.  I'd also like to be able to get widgets of, say, the top box office or upcoming movies in my area and their ratings.
