As many of you know, I recently returned from a 2-week holiday in India, my birthplace. My family and I flew into Delhi, toured the Golden Triangle area, and then spent a few days in Calcutta. This is a series of posts on our trip:
Getting there: We broke journey in London on our way there.
My wife finally found out how little daylight there is during the
winter months, which has dampened her enthusiasm for potentially living
there one day. We had to rush back from the City to make our 6:30
pm flight to India. Turns out that, due to a communication mixup
that was as much my fault as anyone's, we were actually on that day's
10:30 am flight. I have to say that British Airways was great
about it. They were polite and responsive and their priority was
to get us to our destination, rather than figure out what went wrong,
whose fault it was and whether there would be penalties. We were
very lucky to get seats on another flight and the timing actually ended
up better. Phew.

Delhi/Gurgaon: We stayed at my cousin's place in Guragon, which is near Delhi. Gurgaon is an up and coming area where a lot of the multinationals have set up their BPO/call center shops. It is one big construction project. Office buildings, toll highways, residential complexes, malls -- all are being constructed to satiate the appetite of the IT boom that is going on in India. There are gleaming office buildings that look as if they could be in any city.
